Valve Cover

The valve cover seals the top of your cylinder head to keep debris out of the oil and prevent damage to the valves. Valve covers are made of many different materials, such as plastic, aluminum, and stamped steel. Stamped steel and plastic valve covers can warp or crack from heat over time. Valve covers can also warp or bend if the bolts holding them down are over-tightened. If you notice that oil is leaking, your oil is often low, or you smell gas when your engine is running, check your valve cover or valve cover gasket.
