The axle shaft connects the left and right wheel to the carrier and the ring and pinion. These are commonly found as rear axles on rear-wheel-drive vehicles, but can also be found on the front and rear of four-wheel-drive vehicles. Axles can be bent, or wear out over time. The most common failure is a bearing goes bad and damages the surface of the axle where the bearing rides on the axle. Sometimes you can get a repair bearing that is offset and rides in a different place on the axle. If the axle is damaged or bent, you may notice wobbling or vibration while driving.
