Cylinder Head

The cylinder head closes the top of the cylinder and houses valves that allow fuel and air in and exhaust out of the cylinder. There may be one or two cylinder heads on your vehicle. Older cylinder heads feature a single intake and exhaust valve per cylinder, but most modern vehicles have two intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder. When these valves are sealed, your piston creates compression which allows the fuel and air to combust. If your vehicle is misfiring or has low compression, these are both signs your cylinder head may need repair. Overheating can cause damage to your head gasket or cylinder head.
