CV Boot

CV shafts on front and four-wheel drive vehicles allow power to be transferred from the transaxle to the hubs. The CV joints in the axles allow vertical motion in the suspension and steering without binding. When a CV axle fails, it is often due to a lack of grease. This may be caused by a leak in the CV boot, a rubber covering over the CV joints. With time, the boot can become dry and brittle and may crack or tear, which exposes the CV joint to dirt and debris, causing damage. You may notice clicking when turning, grease near the wheel, or more vibration than normal while driving. In some cases, the CV boot can be replaced if the CV joint has not been damaged.
