Spindle/Axle Nut Retainer

Your spindle or axle nut retainer uses a cotter pin to assure your spindle nut stays in place. When driving without the retainer, your hub can loosen the nut, which could cause hub failure or your wheel could even fall off while driving. Take off your wheel and hub dust cap if you notice these problems and you can then see the inside of the hub. If your car has a spindle nut retainer, make sure it is in place and the nut is tight.
