Diesel exhaust fluid, or DEF, is an aqueous urea solution used by diesel burning vehicles to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides being emitted into the air. Running out of diesel exhaust fluid causes your vehicle to experience a dramatic reduction in power and slows it to a crawl. Diesel vehicles have a specific reservoir for diesel exhaust fluid.
