Generator Drive End Bearing

Some older vehicles are equipped with generators instead of alternators. On these vehicles, a commutator inside of the generator creates DC voltage to run the vehicle and charge the battery using conductive brushes as the generator spins. The generator drive end bearing attaches to the generator shaft driven by a pulley and allows it to rotate freely while preventing metal-on-metal contact. If you notice your generator making squealing or grinding noises, or if the pulley won't spin, this may indicate a problem with the bearing.
