Glow Plug Controller

Glow plugs are used in diesel engines to heat the air/fuel mixture in order to ignite the fuel in colder temperatures. In colder temperatures, the air becomes less dense, and a diesel engine may not be able to create adequate compression for combustion as a result. Glow plugs heat the air mixture to make it denser so compression and combustion can occur. A glow plug controller monitors the air-fuel density and temperature and automatically adjusts the glow plug's heat and intensity to keep the engine starting and running smoothly. The glow plug controller is usually located on the engine and is directly connected to the ECU. If you notice white exhaust smoke, poor engine power, or a diesel engine that is hard to start, check the glow plug controller for visible damage or breaks, and test the controller’s function if possible.
