Generator commutators are often used on older model vehicles equipped with a generator instead of an alternator. The commutator is located inside of the generator, and allows the generator to create DC voltage used by the battery using conductive brushes as the generator spins. The commutator switches the current direction every half-turn to generate electricity similarly to how a modern alternator would without having to convert the current back to DC. The generator commutator end bearing is the bearing that allows the generator shaft and commutator to spin inside the conductive brushes.
