AT Modulator

On vehicles with automatic transmissions, engine load and pressure needs to be regulated and routinely modified to avoid harming the engine. The AT modulator applies hydraulic pressure to engage or inhibit certain gears when the engine is under a greater load. The modulator monitors how the engine is performing and applies pressure to accommodate for the engine's load. This is most common when the vehicle is accelerating quickly. When this happens, the modulator activates the throttle valve to apply pressure to the shift valve, which then supplies hydraulic pressure to engage the specified gears.
