Wheel Dust Cap

A dust cap, otherwise known as a wheel bearing cap or grease cap, protects your wheel bearings from debris. The dust cap also holds extra grease for the wheel bearings. Dirt, sand, salt, and other debris can cause wheel bearings to fail. If you hear whining from your wheel bearings, you may notice grease leaking around the dust cap. If that is the case, cleaning up the hub and replacing the dust cap might fix the problem. When replacing the dust cap, make sure and completely fill the inside of it with grease, as well as the area around the bearing. This assures that grease is always available to the bearing.
