Axle Spindle Seal

The axle spindle attaches the wheel hubs to the axle and allows them to rotate. The axle spindle provides a seat for the spindle bearings, which prevent the hub and spindle from making direct contact. On the outside of the wheel hub is a cap on one side and an axle spindle seal on the other to keep grease inside the hub. This keeps your bearings lubricated and prevents grease from leaking from the hub. If you notice squeaky bearings or grease around the rear of your hub, check your axle spindle seal. The seal and grease should be replaced, as low grease levels can ruin your bearings and cause damage to the spindle and hub.
