The intake manifold sends an even distribution of the air-fuel mixture to the cylinders, and provides a mount for the carburetor, throttle body, or the intake plenum and fuel injectors, depending on your engine type. A performance manifold is designed with larger ports to deliver more air and fuel and increase engine power. They can also be made of cast aluminum which is significantly lighter than most OEM cast iron manifolds. For carbureted engines, performance manifolds allow for the carburetor to be upgraded as well.
