Exhaust Manifold Gasket

Your exhaust manifold bolts to the cylinder head and serves to move exhaust gases away from the engine through the exhaust system. Between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head is your exhaust manifold gasket. An exhaust manifold gasket is usually layered and includes metal for strength. This gasket must be able to withstand extreme heat and pressure. If you've noticed excessive noise from your engine or the sound of an exhaust leak, check your exhaust manifold gaskets. If the leak is bad enough, you may also notice a decrease in power, acceleration or gas mileage. In some cases, the hot exhaust gases may melt plastic parts or wiring in the engine bay, causing a burning smell.
